Colorado Unit 132 Description
Unit 132 Located in Prowers County bounded on the North by the Arkansas River; on the East by the Kansas border; on the South by Prowers CRs D & F; on the West by U.S. 287.
GMU 132 Elevation: 3,397 to 4,712 feet. Terrain: Flat to gently rolling. Vegetation: Primarily shortgrass prairie with limited dry land farming. Weather: Mild & dry with first snow possible mid-Oct. Possible severe blizzards by December. Land Status: Approx. 99 percent private. Hunter Access: Fair to poor. Deer: Along Arkansas River, side drainages, old farmsteads. The densities of white tail deer are usually greater than the mule deer along the river. Mule deer densities tend to be greater in the sand sage and pasture lands especially those adjacent to croplands.
Pronghorn: Small pronghorn herd located in center to southern portion of the unit. Small Game: Small numbers of pheasants found in the agricultural areas. Bobwhite quail are mostly concentrated along drainages. Scaled quail found in the cactus and sage habitat. Hunt along ditches and creeks for best waterfowl results. Cottontails scattered throughout unit. Small numbers of sandhill cranes also be found in GMU 132.
